Before we announce the winners of the 2017 MyEntWorld Critics’ Pick Awards, we’re proud to present our annual Nominee Interview Series. The great Lita Brillman and I covered So You Think You Can Dance for the RHAP network last summer. We avidly watched every episode and podcasted for hours about the new all-star coaches format and the […]

Before we announce the winners of the 2013 My TV Awards, we’re proud to present our annual Nominee Interview Series. One of the most consistently inventive and diverse choreographers on FOX’s dance showcase, choosing which of Christopher Scott’s pieces to nominate was like choosing a favourite Lil’C bon mot (meaning, next to impossible). In the end we […]

Before we announce the winners of the 2013 My TV Awards, we’re proud to present our annual Nominee Interview Series. On December 10, two of America’s favourite dancers got married at a vineyard owned by reality TV poohbah Nigel Lythgoe (the executive producer of the show that brought them together). Over ten years of So You Think […]

I’m loving Bunheads. Have I mentioned how much I’m Loving Bunheads? It’s like an hour of pure joy once a week. And not guilty pleasure Bachelorette joy, actual Amy-Sherman-Palladino-Is-Back-On-TV joy. It’s like having Lorelai Gilmore back, but instead of Lauren Graham (with whom I have a love-‘annoyed by’ relationship) we get Sutton Foster (with whom […]

So You Think You Can Dance took a big format risk for their 7th season, limiting the show to a top 10 instead of top 20 and introducing a roster of All-Star former contestants to dance their signature styles with the competitors. In many ways, the new format really paid off. There were a lot […]

My Week in TV
  Kelly Bedard

The Bachelorette: She picked the right guy. They rode off into the sunset. I got simultaneously jealous and then ashamed of myself. It was pretty standard. Except that she let the other guy go before the last day, causing the producers to have to scramble for a new dramatic ending. I kinda liked that, it […]

The Good – SYTYCD‘s earnest (annoying?) farmboy Kent is engagingly mature, almost (dare I say it) sexy, this week in a smooth Dave Scott hip hop with Comfort and a beautiful Travis Wall contemporary with Lauren. – Deserving Emmy nominees abound, especially Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler. – Big Brother returns with a cool new […]

My Week in TV
  Kelly Bedard

I was bored, so I made my own version of TV University (a format I blatantly stole from something I saw on www.thetvaddict.com- please, no one sue me). This week I got the opportunity to participate in a conference call with Secret Life of the American Teenager actress India Eisley. Not being very familiar with […]

The Final Dancer
  Kelly Bedard

Today Nigel announced the last dancer in the So You Think You Can Dance season 7 All-Star pool. Though my all-time SYTYCD favourites Danny Tidwell and Katee Shean are predictably not among the lot, the most recent addition is the most exciting yet: season 3’s goofball prodigy Neil Haskell, one of the show’s most popular […]

More All-Stars Announced

The So You Think You Can Dance All-Star announcements continue with season 3 popper Dominic and season 4 jazz dancer Courtney.

The newest SYTYCD All Star is announced while the worst Amazing Racers of the year finally get the boot.

Dancing All-Stars…again
  Kelly Bedard

Season 4’s adorable quirkball Mark Kanemura (of “Bleeding Love”/ “The Garden” fame) joins the upcoming So You Think You Can Dance season 7 All-Star pool. Easily one of the most exciting additions yet. Still no Katee or Danny though so my dream is not complete.

Another Dancer
  Kelly Bedard

The So You Think You Can Dance season 7 All-Star pool welcomes obvious choice but welcome participant Lauren Gottlieb from the superb (and severely under-represented so far) season 3 cast.

The Reality Reality: Dancing, Dumbassery and some other stuff

1) Nigel announced who the female hip hop master is going to be for the SYTYCD All-Star pool and it’s the least surprising news since he announced the male hip hopper (Twitch). It’s season 4’s Comfort Fedoke, the best female popper the show’s ever seen from easily its best hip hop season. 2) I’m pretty […]

Season 2’s Allison Holker (of Allison & Ivan umbrella dance fame) and Season 5’s Ade Obayomi (of Melissa & Ade breast cancer dance fame) will be joining in the season 7 fun as partners for Contemporary, Classical, Broadway, Cultural and more. Excellent choices both.

The Newest Dance All-Stars
  Kelly Bedard

Nigel’s been unveiling the first ever So You Think You Can Dance all-star pool over twitter. We revealed his announcement of Twitch as the first all-star when we reviewed the show’s proposed new format HERE. The two most recent additions are… Representing Standard and Latin Ballroom: PASHA (season 3) and Representing Jazz, Contemporary and Broadway: […]

Big Dance News
  Kelly Bedard

The powers-that-be are seriously toying with So You Think You Can Dance this year, and we think it may actually be a good thing this time. The beloved summer (yes FOX, you heard me, SUMMER) show is changing people, get on board… because we certainly are. Executive producer, creator, head judge, general pooh bah Nigel […]

Congratulations Dancing Winners!
  Kelly Bedard

In the last few weeks in the overly crowded world of television dance competitions, two very deserving winners won two very different competitions. On So You Think You Can Dance Canada, early favourite Tara Jean took home the win, marking the first time that the best dancer has actually won a SYTYCD season (I love […]

First we lost Shane Sparks, then Wade Robson cut back to a routine or two a year, now the choreographer universally acknowledged to be a genius, Mia Michaels, is also leaving So You Think You Can Dance. The creator of countless memorable contemporary pieces and very few mediocre ones, Mia was the highlight of almost […]

Mary Mother of SYTYCD
  Tim Collins

Okay. I’m currently watching the New Orleans auditions on So You Think You Can Dance and can I just say that I love Mary Murphy. I’m a newcomer to SYTYCD and this summer was the first time I watched it. I thought Mary was annoying, plastic, and way too loud. But what really annoyed me […]

Questionable Reality TV Decisions
  Kelly Bedard

1) I love Ellen but don’t you think that an American Idol permanent judge should know at least something about the music industry? The recent announcement that Ellen will be taking Paula Abdul’s spot at the judging table already annoys me- and I don’t even watch the show. 2) What I do watch, however, is […]

Obsessions of the Week: August 13th
  Kelly Bedard

A Chorus Line: the movie– After watching this ridiculously outdated movie musical for the first time a couple days ago, I find myself wondering if perhaps we’re giving the So You Think You Can Dancers too much credit. Watch the dancers in this movie take on the intricate choreography and you’ll never accept a mediocre […]

And The Winner Is…

Officially my favourite So You Think You Can Dance winner to date!

So who’s ready for the premiere of SYTYCD Canada next week?

The Top 4: Strong Girls and Tiny Dudes
  Kelly Bedard

This year’s So You Think You Can Dance top 4 is unlike any that came before. In most other seasons (including season 3, the only one in which the winner was female) the best two dancers have been male. Who can forget the epic season 2 battle of technique vs. popularity, or the season 3 […]

Chicago White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle brought some insight to David Letterman tonight with his list of “The Top Ten Things That Went Through Mark Buehrle’s Mind During His Perfect Game [on Thursday]” Why is this at all interesting? Number 5 on the list was:“Did I remember to TiVo So You Think You Can Dance?” […]
