You can thank the talented group of the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus (BGMC) for turning up the heat in chilly Boston this weekend (You’re welcome!). This weekend, a select group of the Chorus will feature some sassy, hilarious, and talented performers of hit songs in their Annual Cabaret, this year titled “It’s Getting Hot in Here.” And, boy, is it steamy.
I was lucky enough to see and hear a teaser at a rehearsal earlier this week. Three handsome young men (who shall remain nameless until their big debut) sashayed on-stage for a sexy, kinky number which features some ripping vocals and fierce choreography. These performers knew how to work the room with not only their talented voices, but also their killer acting skills. The song, which shall also remain nameless for now, is from a new Broadway hit, which will bring down the house this weekend. If that’s not enough, I heard rumors about some costumes that will raise more than an eyebrow.
For any of you lucky enough to attend last year, you know the high caliber for this cabaret, led by the always passionate and intelligent music directors Reuben Reynolds and Bill Casey. As a subset of the talented Chorus, these cabaret performers work double duty preparing this one-weekend hit on top of their regular work in the Spring Concert, “Sons & Daughters.” Therefore, it’s easy to say that these performers are some of the most versatile and committed of the Chorus, a select and auditioned group of the Chorus’s existing high caliber of talent.
Have I told you enough to make you grab a seat and enjoy some fun entertainment? Want another tease(r)? Check out a video from last year’s well-attended Cabaret.
With jokes and passion, this year’s show promises to be one of the best yet! Will it top last year’s Cabaret? I’ll let you be your own Harry Connick, Jr., and judge while enjoying one of Club Café’s Signature Drinks.
Come see fantastic performers strut their stuff. Come celebrate the arts in all of its diversity. Come get hot with me.
