Josh Bogert

“At 21-years-old, Josh is an accomplished, independent singer-songwriter, producer, engineer, and actor who has already garnered an impressive 7.7 million career streams to date and over 1 million views on YouTube.  His single “Dreams”, written and produced by Josh, is a fun pop track with a chorus that makes you want to get up and dance despite the yearning and nostalgia that comes through in Josh’s lyricism. Born and raised in Vancouver, BC, Josh’s formal music education started at four years old with classical violin lessons. This quickly expanded to a love of singing and playing guitar, saxophone, drums, and piano, as well as a natural talent for DJing, songwriting, and music production. Josh has performed at some of Canada’s most iconic venues, including Toronto’s Budweiser Stage, the Scotiabank Center in Halifax, and Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton. In addition to his music career, Josh is an established actor who is known for his lead role as Miles Lennox in the Disney/Netflix/Family Channel original series Backstage.”

When did you know you wanted to be a professional musician?

I knew at the age of ten that I wanted to be a professional musician. That’s when I got my first guitar and started playing and singing pop songs. Every new experience with my career since then has only helped me confirm that this is what I’m meant to be doing. From all the different kinds of venues and audiences I’ve played for, to writing sessions and industry meetings, I love it all!

Are you trained? How did you develop your skills?

I started violin lessons when I was four years old, and I was trained in classical music for seven years! Then in high school I trained in jazz with the saxophone and guitar, and I took lessons in several instruments as well as singing. I’m self-taught in songwriting and music production, and have learned over the years from other professionals in the industry. I’m still learning every day from my peers and keeping up as the art of pop music and the industry changes constantly.

Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

I draw influences from a few different artists. When it comes to songwriting, I really admire JP Saxe, especially lyrically. For production, I take influence from Jon Bellion, Lauv, and Justin Bieber.

What’s your favourite tune in your repertoire and why?

My favourite song in my repertoire is usually my latest, so it’s always changing. Right now, it’s my single “Dreams”! I just love how it sonically brings you into a dream world. I also love the irony of the lyrics and how it describes a happy moment within a sad story.

What can audiences expect from one of your live shows?

You can expect a good time, I’ll say that! I like to kick off my shows with high energy and good vibes, and it’ll be a roller coaster ride throughout my set.

Where can we find your music?

You can find my music on all streaming platforms, and if you head to my website, you can find links to my latest song on all of those platforms! While you’re there, you can sign up for my mailing list to keep up to date with everything I’m doing!
